UTStarcom Selects ACCESS’ EMCS Mobile Client Suite for Dual-Mode Handset T66

TOKYO, Japan – August 24, 2006 — ACCESS Co., Ltd., (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and internet access technologies, today announced that UTStarcom, Inc. (Nasdaq: UTSI), a global leader in IP-based, end-to-end networking solutions and services, has selected ACCESS’ EMCS Mobile Client Suite for deployment in UTStarcom’s T66 dual-mode handset. The T66 is a dual-mode GSM/CDMA handset customized for China Unicom’s dual-mode service, World Wind, that has been massively deployed since the end of June

Apart from a1.3-mega-pixel camera and the rich multi-media functionalities, the T66 boasts a “dual-mode, dual-standby” feature, which is designed to support both CDMA and GPRS SIM modes simultaneously enabling users to choose either mode at any time to make a phone call or send a short message. This extends and builds upon the previous dual-mode phone and the World Wind brand, which is expected to be of great significance to the future business development of China Unicom.

The EMCS Mobile Client Suite deployed in the T66 includes browser and MMS client, supporting the OMA Browsing 2.2 and the latest W3C specifications which are designed to enable an easy Internet browsing experience. With ACCESS’ EMCS, the users of T66 can enjoy a rich and complete mobile entertainment and communication experience.

EMCS, based on application software products of PalmSource (Mobilesoft Technology (Nanjing)), is a mobile client suite for handsets, launched by ACCESS after the integration of Mobilesoft. EMCS Mobile Client Suite includes browser, MMS and Java and is a tightly integrated, flexible, modular and extensible software solution that is designed to significantly reduce development time and costs and expected to be particularly suitable for devices with limited hardware resources, helping manufactures quickly introduce advanced new mobile devices.

“Our strategy is to launch products with unique features for specific segment markets,” said John Shouquan Yang, general manager of the terminal business unit at UTStarcom. “Dual-mode technology is our strength and also the future trend of the mobile market. The shipment of the T66 is yet another milestone for UTStarcom in handset innovation that demonstrates our technology leadership in this field. Leveraging the synergy of UTStarcom’s strong R&D capability and ACCESS’ rich experience in mobile technology, we expect to be able to provide a feature-rich mobile experience for mobile users around the world.”

“ACCESS has a close partnership with UTStarcom and has been providing mobile Internet browsing solutions for a series of UTStarcom’s mobile and PAS handsets. We are very pleased to collaborate with UTStarcom to bring T66, the second model of “Dual-mode, Dual-standby” World Wind handset to the market. We also hope the wide deployment of EMCS will allow more China mobile subscribers to enjoy the fun and convenience of mobile browsing,” said Pierre Suhandinata, president and chief executive officer of ACCESS China.
