ACCESS Announces New Version of Java™ Virtual Machine Solution For Mobile

JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition in Combination with ACCESS’ NetFront Browser Delivers Highly Efficient and Functional, Java-Enabled Mobile Solution

TOKYO, Japan – August 8, 2005 – ACCESS Co., Ltd., (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and Internet access technologies, today announced that a new version of its JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition solution has passed compatibility tests for Sun Microsystems’ Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME). The new version of JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition supports Java Technology for the Wireless Industry (JTWI), and the latest versions of NTT DoCoMo’s DoJa specifications, China Unicom’s UniJa specifications, as well as NazomiCommunication Inc.’s multimedia application processor acceleration technology and the QVGA screen resolution standard. The new version of JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition also provides support for JSR (Java Specification Request) 82 (Java APIs for Bluetooth), JSR 135 (Mobile Media API), JSR 179 (Location API for J2ME), JSR 205 (Wireless Messaging API 2.0), JSR 75 (PDA Optional Packages for J2ME) and JSR 184 (Mobile 3D Graphics API for J2ME).

JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition was designed from the ground up to share resources and memory with ACCESS’ NetFront mobile browser. The tight integration between the two applications delivers a pre-tested Java technology enabled mobile browsing solution that is significantly more compact and efficient than solutions from multiple vendors. The combination of JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition and NetFront mobile browser reduces development costs, provides greater flexibility, and speeds time-to-market for mobile handset manufacturers and mobile operators. JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition and NetFront mobile browser are both available as components of ACCESS’ comprehensive NetFront Mobile Client Suite software solution.

“As an important member of the Java ecosystem, Access is providing key solutions for global handset manufacturers and carriers,” said Eric Chu, senior director, Mobile and Embedded Technologies, Sun Microsystems. “ Sun congratulates Access for the latest release of their product, which will further strengthen the Java community and accelerate the deployment of mobile data services based on Java technologies.”

“JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition is an advanced Java technology based solution for mobile that was designed to share resources with ACCESS’ NetFront mobile browser, a central component of ACCESS’ NetFront Mobile Client Suite. By sharing resources among these applications, we’re able to provide our customers with a Java technology capable mobile browsing and mobile suite solution that is much more compact and efficient than solutions developed from multiple providers,” said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO of ACCESS. “ACCESS became a technological driving force in mobile by providing the most advanced, efficient, and versatile software solutions. The latest JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition release continues that tradition.”

JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition has been deployed in handsets from leading global manufacturers including SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS, NEC, Mitsubishi and Panasonic. JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition provides an ideal balance of performance, footprint size, and portability with class libraries that are optimized for mobile devices with limited memory and CPU power. JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition conforms to Java ME (Java Platform, Micro Edition) specifications, including CLDC 1.1 (Connected Limited Device Configuration), JTWI (Java Technology for the Wireless Industry), which includes MIDP 2.0 (Mobile Information Device Profile), WMA1.1 (Wireless Messaging API), and MMAPI (Mobile Media API), as well as Mobile 3D API. As a component of ACCESS’ NetFront Mobile Client Suite, JV-Lite2 Wireless Edition includes JAM, a Java Application Manager that is fully integrated with ACCESS’ NetFront browser.
