QUALCOMM Works with ACCESS China to Demonstrate BREW®-Based Applications for the Ministry of Information Industry’s 3G handset Trail in China

Successful Trial of BREW-Based Applications for 3G Value-Added Services Concluded on CDMA2000® Test Handsets

BEIJING — November 24, 2004 — QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple ACCESS (CDMA) digital wireless technology, and ACCESS China, today announced the successful trial of 3G applications developed for QUALCOMM’s BREW solution, running over CDMA2000 test handsets, at the Ministry of Information Industry’s 3G MTnet value-added services field test. The CDMA2000 test handsets used in the trial were powered by QUALCOMM’s core 3G technology and included ACCESS’ NF3 microbrowser and multimedia email client for the BREW solution, in accordance with 3GPP2 MMS specifications.

The field trial was carried out in three cities, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, and participants included domestic telecommunications operators, foreign and domestic telecommunications equipment manufacturers, and several mobile phone manufacturers. The handsets demonstrated compatibility and interoperability with systems equipment from different outfields, as well as different value-added service platforms offered by a variety of software and hardware manufacturers. The successful trial illustrates the adaptability of QUALCOMM’s technologies across different mobile devices and the strong compatibility of the BREW solution with other data service offerings developed by various manufacturers. China Unicom has offered its BREW-based U-Magic wireless data service since July 2003.

The convenient mobile browsing experience and easy to use email application enabled by ACCESS’ BREW-based mobile data solutions demonstrate the power and flexibility provided by the BREW solution to mobile phone manufacturers looking to develop advanced data solutions and deliver them to market rapidly.

“We are thrilled to partner with QUALCOMM to provide compelling wireless applications and services to mobile phone manufacturers using the BREW solution and QUALCOMM’s 3G capabilities to reduce overall time-to-market,” said Pierre Suhandinata, president and CEO of ACCESS (China). “ACCESS has successfully cooperated with many 3G mobile operators worldwide, and we are willing to share the expertise with domestic operators and mobile phone manufacturers to contribute to the 3G development in China.”

“ACCESS’ software technology, which combines strong functionality, 3G capabilities and advanced wireless data solutions that leverage the BREW system, will help accelerate the development of the 3G ecosystem,” said Jing Wang, chairman of QUALCOMM Greater China. “QUALCOMM will continue to enable software and hardware manufacturers to develop of 3G applications and help them realize rapid time to market, lower integration costs and increased revenues.”

NF Microbrowser
ACCESS’ NF3 browser pre-integrated in CDMA2000 mobile phones that use Qualcomm 3G core technology is the world’s first micro browser deployed in 3G commercial mobile networks. With NF3, users can conveniently and seamlessly view Web pages, and interact with the whole mobile Internet. The NF browser, using unique browsing technology that meets the needs of today’s mobile commercial users, can intelligently render Web pages to fit the narrow screen width, gradually adjust contents on Internet pages by levels, and significantly increases the display speed of Web pages.

The total shipment of NF series browsers has exceeded 139 million worldwide, and the NF browser has now been widely deployed in more than 293 products from over 90 Internet equipment manufacturers, including mobile phones, digital televisions, set-top boxes, game consoles, PDAs, car navigation systems, and so on. NF browser supports several operating system platforms, and can run in several kinds of mobile terminal environments including BREW. ACCESS’ NF browsing technology has been adopted by many mobile operators, software providers and electronics manufacturers. ACCESS’ M-IMAP technology has achieved mass adoption over China Unicom’s CDMA 1 X networks for its multimedia messaging service, U-Mail.
