ACCESS Launches WebKit-based NetFront™ Browser NX 3.0 Featuring World-Class HTML5 and Multiscreen Functionality

2013 International CES, Las Vegas, − January 8, 2013 − ACCESS CO., LTD, a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced the launch of its powerful and advanced WebKit-based browser, NetFront™ Browser NX 3.0. This latest browser release, which targets next-generation multiscreen applications in consumer electronics, broadcasting, communications, in-car systems, and other sectors, features significant enhancements for HTML5 support and performance.

NetFront Browser NX 3.0 provides industry-leading HTML5 support. Its robust processing power and flexible support enable it to display user interfaces (UI), applications and video services with ease on all screens from TVs and set-tops, through to tablets and smartphones. By combining the browser’s HTML5 remote user interface (RUI) with DLNA, NetFront Browser NX 3.0 meets broadcasting, communications and consumer electronics requirements with stress-free playback and synchronization of content.

The browser, which now supports CSS 3D Transforms, CSS Filter and CSS writing-mode, along with Canvas, delivers the most up-to-date Web experience based on HTML5. By supporting key multiscreen building blocks such as Web Socket alongside HTML5 RUI, NetFront Browser NX 3.0 provides service and UI discovery, inter-application communication and barrier-free multiscreen UIs, enabling operators and device manufacturers to deliver intuitive UIs and services seamlessly to multiple devices in the connected home environment.

“The launch of NetFront Browser NX 3.0 supports the progression of HTML5 as it becomes the language of the multiscreen future. Like all our solutions, NetFront Browser NX is designed to give the industry the ‘connected confidence’ to deliver multiscreen solutions that connect the consumer and their content with multiple devices in a seamless fashion,” said Kunihiro Ishiguro, CTO, ACCESS.

The features of NetFront Browser NX 3.0 include:
  • Industry-leading HTML5 support:
Industry’s best-in-class HTML5 functionality, including Web Socket (RFC 6455), which has received html5test.com’s industry-leading score. (The HTML5 website detects and measures the degree to which browsers support HTML5 and the score is based on NetFront Browser NX Data as of January 7, 2013 and data from html5test.com.)
  • Rich expressiveness of HTML5:
Besides supporting multiple TV standards, including HbbTV and BBC iPlayer, it now supports HTML5 features such as CSS 3D Transforms, CSS writing-mode and WebGL, providing the necessary transitions, animation and 3D graphics required by the video and TV industries.
  • Low-memory use and high performance:
The JIT-use memory area has been made variable to maximize the efficient use of limited memory. Unique extensions enable extremely high-performance graphical rendering through hardware acceleration.
  • Outstanding portability for reduced development load:
Maintains the same porting interfaces as NetFront Browser NX 2.x series and has been verified on the chipsets of Intel, Broadcom, MTK, OMAP and R-Car, etc.
  • Global support:
With over one billion NetFront™ series software deployments throughout the world, ACCESS has the global scale, advanced technologies and comprehensive services to help OEMs bring their WebKit-based browser product to market quickly, efficiently and at reduced cost.
