ACCESS Launches First SDK for Android BML Browsers

Tokyo, – November 16, 2011 – ACCESS CO., LTD, a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced the launch of the first software development kit (SDK) for porting BML browsers to Android-based TVs. The kit, named NetFront^™ Browser DTV Profile BML Edition SDK for Android, will be provided to TV and set-top box manufacturers worldwide within this year.

NetFront Browser DTV Profile BML Edition SDK for Android will support efforts by manufacturers to introduce Android-based TVs and STBs in the Japanese market, providing them with an easy solution for porting BML browsers based on the A Profile standard, a data broadcasting standard for digital terrestrial broadcasting to TVs, STBs and car-navigation systems.

The new SDK offers proven stability based on the existing NetFront Browser DTV Profile BML Edition SDK, which has been deployed widely in digital TVs equipped for digital- and communication-satellite broadcasting and digital terrestrial broadcasting in Japan. Manufacturers will be able to quickly deploy highly-quality BML browser functions in TVs and SDKs by simply embedding sample code with Android-compatible features in their apps and middleware.

Features of NetFront Browser DTV Profile BML Edition SDK for Android include:

• Excellent stability based on ACCESS’ proven SDK for BML browsers
• Java Native Interface, which enables programs written in Java to call programs written in other languages, and selected porting functions initially deployed on the Android platform to be offered with documentation and sample code for simple deployment. Compatible with Android 3.1 (later versions scheduled to be supported)
• Ideal for STBs, TVs, tablets and other devices
