Media Factory Selects ACCESS™ Digital Publishing Ecosystem to Power Its Expansion Into Digital Publishing

Tokyo, – June 23, 2011 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced that the ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem, a new digital publishing service and technology ecosystem targeting smart phones and tablet devices across global markets, has been selected by Media Factory, Inc., a Japanese publisher of popular comics, magazines, games, and music, to power its expansion into digital publishing. The ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem provides publishers like Media Factory with a comprehensive and cost-effective solution that enables them to reach iPhone®, iPad®, iPod touch® and Android device users with enhanced digital publications in a powerful native application format that delivers exciting new reading experiences.

The global digital publishing market is rapidly growing, aided by the explosive growth of smart phone and tablet device users. The e-book market in Japan is expected to reach 240 billion yen by 2015. In response, ACCESS has launched the ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem platform, a comprehensive digital publishing solution that enables publishers, content providers, device manufacturers and mobile operators to quickly and profitably enter the digital publishing market. The first three e-books launched by Media Factory using the ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem include the comic titles: Tono To Issho, Aria the Scarlet Ammo, and Maria Holic. All three e-books were released on April 12 for iPad.

The ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem builds on the technological capabilities and expertise derived from ACCESS’ NetFront software series, which has been deployed in over 1 billion devices throughout the world. The solution provides comprehensive support to digital publishers, from user device clients to server systems, and includes an e-book viewer, content distribution system, advertising distribution system and a sales management system. The solution can be used not only for e-books (novels and comics), but also for a wide range of content, including games, videos, wallpapers, and news publications. The solution also supports the distribution of promotional marketing campaigns for new content, and it can be customized to the tastes of individual users, enabling content sellers to increase their sales while also directing users to related content, resulting in more effective promotions. In the future, ACCESS plans to extend the ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem with the implementation of a cloud-based bookshelf library feature that will enable users to seamlessly access and enjoy the content that they have purchased on multiple smart phones, tablet devices, computers, and televisions.

ACCESS is dedicated to supporting the growth of the digital publishing market by extending the ACCESS Digital Publishing Ecosystem to publishers and companies throughout the world.
