ACCESS Showcases NetFront™ Living Connect v2.0 Next-Generation DLNA Home Networking Solution at IBC

  • New features bring advanced content synchronization and media management capabilities
  • Provides solid basis for Remote User Interface and Scheduled Recording Service

Tokyo, Japan, – September 7, 2010 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile, beyond-PC and digital TV markets, today announced that it will be demonstrating NetFront Living Connect v2.0 at IBC 2010 (9-14 September, Amsterdam). NetFront Living Connect v2.0 is the latest release of ACCESS’ DLNA software solution designed to advance the implementation of multimedia home networks and enhance the management and control of a variety of devices within a home network.

NetFront Living Connect v2.0 is packed with new features anticipating the next generation of DLNA guidelines, ready to provide device manufacturers, content providers and ultimately end-users with state-of-the-art DLNA capabilities. The most notable new features included in NetFront Living Connect v2.0 are Content Synchronization and Smart Media Manager.

Content Synchronization is a new DLNA-defined feature that allows content such as pictures, movies or music to be synchronized between different media devices coexisting within a home network. The Content Synchronization feature makes it easy for users to synchronize their media content at home.

Smart Media Manager is a media server management resource with a browser-based interface that includes features such as Meta data extensions, parental guidance and security settings. It provides an easy-to-use configuration tool, making it possible to define customized rules to access and share content within the home network. Thanks to the Smart Media Manager, parents can, for example, define which content their children can access on their home multimedia network.

“NetFront Living Connect v2.0 is yet another demonstration of our continued innovation in the connected devices area,” said Tomihisa Kamada, president, CEO and co-founder, ACCESS CO., LTD. “It is also a testimony to our commitment to fully exploit the potential of the next-generation DLNA guidelines, and to bring cutting-edge capabilities to the market as quickly as possible.”

NetFront Living Connect v2.0 lays the groundwork for DLNA standards-based next-generation Scheduled Recording Service (SRS) and Remote User Interface (RUI) technologies. SRS provides a standardized method for users to schedule recordings of broadcast or other content on different devices inside the home. RUI connects devices at home and allows external control via small embedded web servers. RUI is based on widely accepted Web standards and promises to be well-supported by manufacturers. Thanks to ACCESS’ unique product portfolio, the company can provide a turn-key solution by combining its NetFront Browser and NetFront Widgets with NetFront Living Connect, all essential components required for RUI technology.

ACCESS also announced the availability of an updated NetFront Living Connect v2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK).

ACCESS will be demonstrating its home networking solutions at IBC with some of its European partners, including:

  • Cabot Communications Ltd (Booth 1.A33)
  • Pirelli Broadband Solutions (Booth 4.A71)
  • Vestel Electronics (Booth IP350)
