ACCESS Provides Innovative Technologies for the Connected Digital TV Industry

Joint projects announced with NDS, Miniweb Interactive

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, – September 10, 2009 – ACCESS Systems Europe Holdings B.V. – a subsidiary of ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets-today announced joint initiatives with key industry players to enable new capabilities, new services and content for connected digital TVs and advanced home multimedia networks.

ACCESS and NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, are undertaking a joint initiative to bring Pay-TV and free-to-air (FTA) channels to broadband connected-TVs without the need for a set-top box (STB). The two companies will integrate the NDS InfiniteTV hybrid content platform with ACCESS NetFront Browser, to provide pay-TV and FTA broadcasters with a compelling solution for connected-TV users.

ACCESS is also collaborating with Miniweb Interactive to provide a joint solution for converged Internet and broadcast video services. Miniweb is an Interactive Service Provider that enables Internet video, micropayments, community functions, social networking and relevant, web-style advertising on TV. The joint solution, integrating ACCESS NetFront Browser with the Miniweb services platform, will provide consumers with a personalized entertainment experience on their TV. Viewers will gain access to a broad range of easily accessible broadband video content to complement their broadcast programmes. They will also benefit from a new level of flexibility and control over their viewing experience, allowing them to search for and discover video content from multiple sources. The integrated solution will be available for TV network operators wanting to enhance their service offering with additional Internet-derived content beyond classic video on demand (VOD), and for hybrid TV device manufacturers wishing to include broadband delivered content as part of their product offering.

Key to the development of these joint solutions are the following ACCESS software technologies, designed for easy integration into next-generation television services platforms:

  • ACCESS NetFront Browser, the most advanced, versatile and powerful full Internet browser for beyond-PC devices,
  • ACCESS NetFront Living Connect, a DLNA-certified software solution to manage home networks integrating multimedia appliances such as digital TVs, digital cameras, HDD recorders and more. In anticipation of developments in DLNA requirements, ACCESS is already integrating next-level features such as Scheduled Recording Services, which enables the viewer to watch recorded/PVR TV on any home-connected, DLNA-enabled electronic device.
  • ACCESS video aggregation and media management technologies, providing consumers with easy access to aggregated video content.

“ACCESS is committed to supporting the industry momentum in this fast-growing area,” said Yusuke Kanda, CEO, ACCESS Europe. “Not only do we offer a broad scope of technologies, but in this competitive environment, we bring our proven experience in customizing solutions that make it possible for operators and device manufacturers to differentiate their products and services.”
