ACCESS Linux Platform™ mini Makes Japan Debut in New Portable Navigation Device

Tokyo, Japan, – May 7, 2009 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, announced today that ACCESS Linux Platform mini will be deployed in the G-navi (GN-01) portable navigation device to be distributed by Tokyo-based Business Link Corp. This is the first time that ACCESS Linux Platform mini, a compact Linux® platform for mobile and Internet-enabled devices, has been adopted for a mobile device in Japan.

G-navi is the world’s first portable navigation device to support maps based on Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), quickly rendering high-quality, easy-to-read maps using the latest MAPPLE Digital Map Data from Shobunsha Publications, Inc. Internet connection is made possible by wireless LAN connection and ACCESS’ proven NetFront Browser. The compact G-navi is suitable for hiking, camping and driving.

ACCESS Linux Platform mini is a compact, commercial-grade Linux platform designed for cost-efficient mobile and next-generation Internet-enabled devices with resource-constrained platform requirements. Because ACCESS Linux Platform mini is highly scalable and flexible, it provides applications that can support a wide range of devices, from low-end smartphones to portable navigation devices, and media players to set-top boxes.

Development and commercialization of G-navi was managed by Shanghai Novarobo Technology Co., Ltd. (Novarobo), a member of ACCESS Connect Ecosystem (ACE), ACCESS’ global partner program. Novarobo designs Linux-based platforms and SDKs for customers intending to develop home gateway, smartphone and portable navigation systems.

The G-navi proposition is portability, high-quality navigation and Internet access at an affordable price. Designed for simple handling and display of complex map data, G-navi leverages ACCESS Linux Platform mini’s ability to deliver high performance in devices with limited hardware and resources to position itself as an economical yet powerful portable navigation device.

The device, priced at 33,600 yen (including consumption tax) is expected to be available in stores from the beginning of May, 2009.
