ACCESS Co-Founder Tomihisa Kamada to Kick Off OSiM 2007 Conference

  • Keynote address to focus on Mobile Linux In The Era of Convergence

Open Source in Mobile, Madrid, Spain, – September 18, 2007 – ACCESS CO., LTD. co-founder and CTO Tomihisa Kamada will deliver the opening keynote address at this year’s Open Source in Mobile (OSiM 2007) conference in Madrid, Spain from September 18 to 19. The keynote, Mobile Linux in the Era of Convergence, will discuss the benefits of mobile Linux® for converged solutions and how the evolution of the mobile industry will result in explosive growth for mobile Linux. Known as the “father of the mobile browser” for his pioneering work on the Compact HTML standard, Dr. Kamada is now leading the mobile industry towards the convergence of next generation networks with multimedia services and converged devices.

OSiM is the world’s premier conference for mobile Linux and open source technologies. According to a recently-published study by ABI Research, over the next five years, Linux is expected to be the fastest growing smartphone OS and is forecast to account for nearly 31% of all smart devices in the market by 2012. Highlighting this explosive growth, OSiM 2007 brings together top-level executives from around the world representing the full spectrum of the mobile Linux ecosystem.

ACCESS will showcase support for mobile Linux from third parties, silicon vendors and ACCESS Connect Ecosystem (ACE) partners with demonstrations of ACCESS Linux Platform running on different mobile hardware platforms as well as third-party software developed for the three environments supported by ACCESS Linux Platform:  Java, Garnet VM and native Linux.

Demonstrations will include Orange Container Program applications, such as Bluestreak Technology’s MachBlue platform for iTV and mobile phones. Bluestreak’s MachBlue software platform powers Orange World TV, a rich-media mobile television portal that delivers over 50 channels across 3G and EDGE networks.

Didier Diaz, senior vice president Product Strategy Management, ACCESS CO., LTD. will speak on Meeting the Mobile Challenge with the Hiker Framework. ACCESS’ Hiker Application Frameworkis the industry’s first open source mobile Linux application framework for commercial use. The Hiker Application Framework integrates communication between applications, enabling a seamless user experience for music, messaging and other advanced features.

Larry Berkin, senior director Developer Ecosystem & Technology Acquisition, ACCESS Systems Americas, will participate in an interactive panel, Making it as Easy as PC: Overcoming the Barriers to Mobile Linux Development that will explore resources available to mobile Linux developers.

Special developer events
As added support for Linux and open source developers, ACCESS will host a special Linux Platform Developer Training session, Mastering Development for the ACCESS Linux Platform. The company will also sponsor the popular developers’ Night Coding marathon from 9.00pm to midnight on Tuesday, September 18.

Wrapping up the conference, ACCESS’ director of open source technologies, David “Lefty” Schlesinger, will moderate the final team competition, “Linux Master” – the Open Source Communities vs. Commercial Linux Distros, during Wednesday night’s closing party.
