ACCESS Announces Free Trial Download of NetFront™ v3.1 Software Development Kit for Linux

NetFront Browser SDK Supports Multiple Linux Variants and GUI Environments Including Qtopia, QT/Embedded and GTK, MontaVista Linux and MontaVista Graphics

Tokyo, Japan / Fremont, CA, USA – December 22, 2003 – ACCESS (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and access technologies, today announced that its new NetFront v3.1 Software Development Kit (SDK) for Linux is available for free download from ACCESS’ web site (http://www.access.co.jp/english). The Qtopia/Qt/Embedded package is available today, and the GTK package will follow in early January. Both trial versions bundle the evaluation version of the MontaVista® Linux® Professional Edition 3.0 and MontaVista Graphics from MontaVista Software, Inc. as well as Qt/Embedded and Qtopia from Trolltech A/S, enabling NetFront as an executable immediately after downloading on these environments.

NetFront v3.1 SDK for Linux is the newly available software development kit for NetFront v3.1, the latest version of the most widely deployed and actively used mobile browser in the world. The SDK supports MontaVista Linux, one of the most widely used embedded Linux development platforms worldwide, and MontaVista Graphics/GTK+, QT/Embedded and Qtopia as GUI environment options. The SDK allows developers to port and customize the NetFront browser for a variety of Linux-based embedded and consumer appliances with minimal development time. The commercial version of NetFront v3.1 SDK for Linux will ship at the end of December.

“We are excited that customers can now download an evaluation version of our joint solution with ACCESS, a recognized global leader in embedded browsers and services. Together, MontaVista Software and ACCESS are delivering a solution that can speed their consumer electronics and Internet appliance products to market,” said Hitoshi Arima, vice president of Sales, Japan, MontaVista Software. “By integrating with NetFront, we are able to offer a proven, scalable, robust and secure micro-browser solution to the worldwide embedded developer community.”

NetFront v3.1 boasts several innovations unmatched by competitors such as Smart-Fit Rendering, a technology that intelligently renders Web pages to fit the narrow screen widths of mobile devices, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. Also included is Direct Connect, a new feature that enables the NetFront browser to monitor and control the hard ware connected to the device. With unique advanced features such as these, NetFront provides the best mobile Internet browsing experience for end users on a wide variety of consumer electronics and information appliances.
