- ACCESS Announces VGA Capable NetFront™ Browser for Toshiba e800 Series PDAs
Tokyo, Japan / Fremont, CA, USA – October 29, 2003 – ACCESS (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and access technologies, announced today that it has developed a VGA capable version of its popular NetFront® browser for Toshiba’s new e800 series Pocket PC 2003 PDAs. The browser will be available for download purchase on Handango.com, PocketGear.com, and Shop Toshiba (www.shoptoshiba.com) beginning in November.
NetFront v3.1 for Toshiba’s e800 series features support for VGA display (480 x 640 pixels), a first for the Pocket PC platform, greatly enhancing the Web browsing experience. NetFront v3.1 for Toshiba’s e800 series offers additional features like Multi-Window display, which supports the display of up to 5 tabbed windows, and Smart-Fit display, a technology that intelligently adapts Web pages designed for the desktop to the width of smaller device screens, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. It also offers support for drag-scrolling with a stylus pen and other useful functions that enable a powerful Web experience.
NetFront for Pocket PC has been available on commercial download sites like Handango.com since early in 2002. Since then, it has garnered a 4 1/2 star rating from end-users on Handango.com, and it has earned critical recognition with a nomination as a finalist in the Pocket PC Magazine’s Best Software Awards for 2003.
NetFront now stands as the most widely deployed and actively used browser in the beyond-PC market, supporting more OS platforms and devices than any competing browser in the market. NetFront recently surpassed 100 million deployments in devices ranging from mobile phones and PDAs to digital televisions, gaming consoles and telematics systems. ACCESS’ technology is included in Internet solutions from many of the world’s leading mobile operators, software providers and electronics manufacturers including Adobe, Alpine, AT&T Wireless, China Mobile, China Unicom, Handspring, Hutchinson 3G Group, IBM, KDDI, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, PalmSource, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and more.
