ACCESS Licenses SMIL Multimedia Player to KDDI for CDMA 1X WIN Service

SMIL Player Will Provide Comprehensive Multimedia Functionality to au Branded Handsets

Tokyo, Japan / Fremont, USA / Oberhausen, Germany – October 27, 2003 – ACCESS Co. Ltd. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and access technologies for information appliances, announced today that its SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) multimedia player has been licensed by KDDI for deployment on its au branded handsets available through its 3G CDMA 1X WIN data delivery service running on a CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO network.

The SMIL player for KDDI, formally named NetFrontv3.1 SMIL Player for KDDI, supports both SMIL Basic, the latest W3C specification, as well as KDDI’s own feature set. NetFront v3.1 SMIL Player for KDDI allows consumers to access and play multimedia content, like movies, animations, still images, sounds, and text in a dynamic manner. Information can be selected and organized for display by consumers according to their personal preference, greatly enhancing and personalizing the end-user experience. NetFront v3.1 SMIL Player for KDDI will initially support KDDI’s EZ Channel.

  1. CDMA 2000 1x EV-DO
    A new 3G high-speed wireless packet data network, enabling a maximum download speed of 2.4Mbps and upload speed 144 Kbps (both at best effort).
  2. EZ Channel
    EZ Channel allows one to program automatic content delivery from a programming guide, with daily or weekly updates. Furthermore this service provides end-users to download contents on demand through specialized contents window format.
