ACCESS and Tilcon Partner To Provide Wind River Developers With Browser and Tools for the Telematics Market

Telematics Update Detroit 2003, Detroit, MI – April 29, 2003 – ACCESS Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and access technologies, and Tilcon, the graphical interface company, have teamed to provide Wind River (NASDAQ: WIND) developers using WIND RIVER® PLATFORM for Car Infotainment with a browser and tools to create innovative browser-based solutions for the global telematics market.

Developers can use Tilcon’s Graphical Interface Builder and ACCESS’ NetFront® embedded browser to create telematics applications with WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Car Infotainmentæa market-specific platform that pre-integrates the industry’s most reliable real-time operating system (RTOS), Wind River’s Vx Works, with development tools, multimedia APIs and connectivity protocols. A demonstration of the companies’ telematics technologies and tools can be seen on April 29 and 30 in the Wind River booth, #10-11, at Telematics Update Detroit 2003, Cobo Center, Detroit, MI.

The Telematics Research Group predicts there will be more than 105 million telematics-enabled automobiles on the roads worldwide between 2006-2010. Embedded Internet browsers can power telematics technologies such as GPS and provide vehicle information, driver information such as traffic/route information, news, email, and driver entertainment such as video, streaming audio and MP3. To support the multitude of services and ensure an affordable device cost, car infotainment and telematics device developers benefit from proven, integrated software solutions.

“Tilcon’s suite of intuitive and feature rich tools make development of dashboard and driver controlled display systems fast and easy. Tilcon’s graphic display engine is fast, compact and fully integrated with industry leading RTOS technologies, automotive hardware reference platforms and other complementary technologies. As a result, automotive manufacturers will be able to quickly develop complete and integrated vehicle systems that include dashboard instrumentation, vehicle information, navigation, telematics and multimedia. The combination of our user interface technology with ACCESS’ NetFront browser is a winning formula for developers building solutions with the latest car infotainment technology from Wind River,” said Ernest Hollander, vice-president, engineering at Tilcon Software.

Toru Arakawa, president and chief executive officer of ACCESS Co., Ltd. commented: “The browser in telematics is much more than just a tool to browse the Internet. It’s a powerful and dynamic application that will dramatically alter how we interact with our vehicles. We have considerable experience working with automobile manufacturers and after-market telematics vendors in Asia and Europe and a partnership with Tilcon will help usher in a new era for telematics in the U.S.”d-users in China,” said Toru Arakawa, president and chief executive officer of ACCESS Co., Ltd.

“To ensure a complete range of integrated technologies for WIND RIVER PLATFORM for Car Infotainment, Wind River partners with leading companies like ACCESS and Tilcon to expand the range of options for developers looking for tools to create innovative solutions for the telematics market,” said Marc Serughetti, director of marketing for automotive, industrial, aerospace and defense for Wind River. “Through these partnerships, OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers have the foundation they need to develop highly reliable car infotainment products.”
