Adobe and ACCESS to Expand Reach of Adobe Reader to Wide Range of Non-PC Devices

Millions of New Users to Access Adobe PDF Content on PDAs, Car Navigation Systems, Cell Phones, Set Top Boxes, Gaming Consoles and More

SAN JOSE, Calif. — April 7, 2003 — Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ: ADBE), the leader in network publishing, and ACCESS Co., Ltd., (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of mobile content delivery and access technologies, today announced they are teaming to make Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) as ubiquitous on consumer electronics and mobile platforms as it is on PCs.

Under the agreement, ACCESS will integrate Adobe® Reader® software into a future version of its NetFrontWeb browser. This will allow consumers and professionals to view and interact with photographs, dynamic media, documents and more in PDF on devices such as PDAs, cell phones and gaming consoles.

“With more than half-a-billion copies of the Adobe Reader distributed to date, millions of users are discovering the value of Adobe PDF as a truly dynamic container for all kinds of information, from digital photos to business forms,” said Shantanu Narayen, executive vice president, Worldwide Products at Adobe. “We’re excited to be working with ACCESS to expand the reach of Adobe Reader and ensure that the power of PDF is available to consumers and business professionals anywhere, on any device.”

Now consumers and businesses worldwide will have new ways to access and share information without being tethered to their PCs. Using a PDA, cellphone or even a car navigation system, users will be able to view the content of their choice in PDF, leading to easier, more convenient ways of exchanging information. For example, a consumer could use a PDA to view an interactive newspaper that includes video of the day’s headline story, up-to-the-minute stock charts and dynamic entertainment information – all stored within the PDF.

“ACCESS has a long history of updating and enhancing the NetFront browser to support new advances in non-PC technology,” said Toru Arakawa, president and CEO, ACCESS Co., Ltd. “By collaborating with Adobe, our browser solution will be more compelling and useful for customers and end-users. We are very proud to work with Adobe to deliver this next level of functionality to the non-PC market.”
