724 Solutions X-treme Mobility Gateways Interoperable with ACCESS’ NetFront™ Browser

X-treme Mobility Gateway and NetFront v3.0 Browser Enable Next-Generation Data Services for Mobile Network Operators

Toronto, Ontario / Tokyo, Japan / Fremont, CA, USA – October 29, 2002 – 724 Solutions (NASDAQ:SVNX; TSX: SVN), a leading provider of next-generation IP-based networks and data services, and ACCESS (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 4813), a global provider of software and services for IP-based consumer electronics devices, announced the interoperability of ACCESS’ NetFront v3.0 browser technology and 724 Solutions X-treme Mobility Gateways. The interoperability of the two products provide mobile network operators with the opportunity to use NetFront-enabled handsets powered by the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) 2.0 established infrastructure from 724 Solutions.

As mobile network operators evolve from circuit-based to packet-based networks, they have a critical need for an Internet Protocol gateway that demonstrates high availability, scalability, flexibility and attractive total cost of ownership. 724 Solutions’ X-treme Mobility Gateways are designed to deliver these core values. They provide support for WAP 1.x, WAP 2.0, Short Messaging Service and Multimedia Messaging Services. Other features include: full system management, flexible configuration, and seamless integration with most networking infrastructure, content conversion, and security and traffic optimization. Geographic distribution and fail-over functionality are also key elements.

NetFront v3.0 is a full-featured and efficient browser with sophisticated modularity, covering a broad range of appliance profiles from mobile phones to digital televisions. With more than 72 million licenses sold and powering 177 different consumer electronics Internet devices from more than 40 major manufacturers, NetFront is the most widely used embedded browser in the world.

“Having NetFront v3.0 acceptance demonstrates that the X-treme Mobility Gateways enable mobile operators to truly support open standards, including WAP 2.0,” said John Sims, CEO of 724 Solutions. “Together, 724 Solutions and ACCESS have a leadership offering to mobile network operators who are looking to provide valuable next-generation data services to their subscribers.”

“Mobile network operators can now take advantage of not only two great technologies, but two global companies with experience in wireless services,” said Toru Arakawa, CEO of ACCESS, Co. Ltd. “With our interoperability, we can provide a powerfully scalable, secure and proven wireless data solution to mobile operators throughout the world.”
