ACCESS and Zenterio collaboration enables operators to reduce hardware requirements, enable premium video streaming and advanced UIs

Joint solution demoed on the ACCESS stand (IBC: 14.D14) now also supports an advanced HTML User Interface and commercial ready HbbTV support

Oberhausen, Germany, 09 September, 2015 − ACCESS CO., LTD (IBC stand 14.D14), a global provider of advanced software technologies to the automotive, mobile, Internet of Things (IoT) and digital TV markets, today announced that visitors to its IBC stand will see the latest developments of ACCESS software solutions running on Zenterio OS. The features showcased at IBC complement the integration of the joint solution by Magyar Telekom and M7 announced by Zenterio at IBC 2014(http://www.zenterio.com/access-and-zenterio-showcase-integration-of-media-sharing-and-tv-centric-browser-deployment-with-zenterio-os/). The integration has been extended to support HbbTV for Hybrid TV deployments.

The extended integration utilizes ACCESS’ lightning speed HTML5 engine combined with Zenterio’s new HTML User Interface, JETUI, to give operators a solution that can meet the increasing consumer demand for easy content access. In addition, the joint solution opens a pathway toward secure multiroom Personal Video Recorder (PVR) media sharing, without the need of secondary Smart cards. The integration adds support for HbbTV and the evolving YouTube guidelines via ACCESS’ NetFront™ Browser NX, as well as advanced media player and Personal Video Recorder (PVR) capabilities, allowing consumers to seamlessly collate content from multiple sources within the operator environment. The collaboration also ensures that operators remain in control of the viewer’s experience regardless of the content source.

“Operators are looking to reduce costs for set-top-boxes and secondary smart cards for PVR access, while still providing a more personal experience for consumers. The solution we developed with Zenterio enables operators to deploy next generation UIs on any platform in the blink of an eye,” said Dr Neale Foster, COO and VP Global Sales, ACCESS Europe. “This combination of Zenterio OS and ACCESS Twine™ allows our customers to quickly adapt their solutions in accordance with consumer demand. It offers more flexibility, makes it easier to manage multiscreen capability and it keeps hardware costs to a minimum.”

“Since the beginning of our collaboration with ACCESS, we have seen the multiscreen industry mature and embrace standards as more devices and interaction methods enter the mix. We’re pleased to reveal our joint solution that enables operators to deliver a highly personalised viewer experience on any platform,” said Marco Frattolin, VP Product Management, Zenterio. “Our IBC demonstrations will help operators see how they can utilize standards-based solutions to deliver true multiscreen everywhere and keep subscribers hooked to their services regardless of the device.”

The integration of ACCESS solutions with Zenterio OS will be showcased throughout IBC on the ACCESS stand (14.D14) to showcase how operators can increase the value of their set-top-boxes for consumers. Demos include:
  • ACCESS Twine™ – a multimedia management solution that enables consumers to connect regardless of the devices plugged into the multiscreen service, while ensuring that operators remain in control of the consumer experience. Operators deploying the solution can also easily gather and analyse consumer behaviour data, such as devices used to access the service, preferred types of content or storage habits. New at IBC are enhanced data mining functionality and remote access to personal content inside the home, in addition to the virtual multiscreen content library functionality originally showcased at CES 2015. A hybrid solution, ACCESS Twine enables operators to manage authorizations for PVR shared content, ensuring that they comply with the studios’ stringent rights regulations, while supporting content aggregation from the cloud.
  • NetFront™ Browser family – demos include support for Android tablet and smartphones, major silicon vendor reference platforms and Hbbtv 2.0, Freeview Play and YouTube on TV.
  • NetFront™ Living Connect – the DLNA® media sharing Technology Component™ has been extended to support the DLNA VidiPath™ guidelines, allowing next-generation devices to enable secure media sharing in the home.
  • Zenterio OS – the operating system enables TV operators to make independent hardware, middleware and back-end solution choices. Zenterio ensures that operators are free to focus on service development as an independent business driver rather than staying locked in by current ecosystem limitations. The system features an extensive framework architecture, which enables fast adaptations to market needs and introductions of new ‘must have’ features; including multiscreen, music services, interactive advertising, interactive TV and social interactivity.
