ACCESS Launches NetFront™ Living Connect-Secure to Provide Multiscreen Operators with ‘Studio Confident’ Security

Oberhausen, Germany, − 05 September, 2013 − ACCESS CO., LTD today announces that its award winning DLNA Technology Component™ NetFront™ Living Connect has been extended with a ‘security interface’ for simplified Conditional Access System (CAS) integration. NetFront™ Living Connect 3.0 can now share CAS protected content such as local Personal Video Recorder (PVR) movies or live TV streams between devices.

This new security interface enables middleware companies and operators to deploy NetFront Living Connect as a key technology enabler for the monetization of advanced multi-room and multi-screen use cases. Through integration with CAS from leading security vendors, NetFront™ Living Connect-Secure provides ‘studio confident’ security features and removes the content protection barrier to multiscreen success. Operators can now for the first time link the historically closed Set-top Box (STB) with other unmanaged devices such as the connected TV, PC and tablet. Device interoperability is solved via standardized technologies including UPnP, DLNA and HTML5.

NetFront Living Connect-Secure combines already commercial proven functionality such as device discovery, play to TV and personal content sharing with Conditional Access (CA) systems to allow in-home domain control and logging and tracking of premium content. In combination with DTCP-IP link protection, CA protected content can now be shared to consumer devices.

“Multi-screen is in a catch-22 situation right now; without strong security, multi-screen will not get access to the highest value content; and without this content multi-screen will not catch on with the public – we’ve designed and launched NetFront Living Connect-Secure to enable operators to escape this catch-22,” said Kunihiro Ishiguro, CTO, ACCESS. “The launch of NetFront Living Connect-Secure enables operators and device manufacturers to work with the content industry to quickly implement STB-centric services that can be enjoyed on tablets, mobile phones and as well as on the Smart TVs. ”
This additional layer of security enables operators deploying NetFront Living Connect-Secure to meet the high security levels studios need before granting multi-screen access to early-release and other valuable content.

NetFront Living Connect-Secure is an extension to award winning DLNA Technology component NetFront Living Connect.

NetFront Living Connect has achieved an extensive track record of successful DLNA Certified® device deployments on a variety of consumer electronic devices offered by leading manufacturers in markets throughout the world and adheres to DLNA Premium Video guidelines.

It enables operators to utilize standardized technology such as UPnP and DTCP-IP to share premium content inside the home while keeping the security control. The solution can be combined with NetFront Browser NX to enable also HTML5 Remote User Interface sharing and display that allows operators to enable another level of user experience control.

NetFront Living Connect-Secure extensions will be also available on different platform Software Development Kits, e.g. for iOS, Android.
