ACCESS’ NetFront™ Deployments Surpass 700 Million Worldwide

GSMA Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain, – February 16, 2009 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, today announced that worldwide deployments of its NetFrontproducts, notably NetFront Browser for mobile handsets and Internet-enabled devices, surpassed 700 million at the end of January 2009. Growth in installations of NetFront Widgets, a comprehensive widget solution released in July 2008, has been credited with driving NetFront product installations past the 700 million mark.

With more people using mobile devices to access the Internet, widgets are attracting attention from operators, handset manufacturers, and content providers as tools that connect users to Web services and content tailored to their interests. NetFront Widgets complies with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) specifications, and is adding support for the Open Mobile Terminal Platform (OMTP) BONDI standard, which has gained the support of operators and handset manufacturers worldwide. By adopting ACCESS’ solution based on the open Web standard, operators and handset manufacturers can accelerate development and delivery of widget services, while content providers can tap into a deep pool of potential users.

In Japan, the full widget solution is already being used by SOFTBANK MOBILE Corp. and WILLCOM Inc., while ACCESS’ widget service is used by NTT DOCOMO, Inc. NetFront Widgets is growing not just in Japan, but worldwide, too, and appears in Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. handsets used in markets outside of Japan.

In addition, NetFront deployments in beyond-PC devices are growing rapidly. As more and more consumer electronic devices are network and Internet ready, NetFront technologies, including NetFront Browser and NetFront Widgets, have become part of the standard user experience.

“To date, ACCESS has developed leading-edge technologies and products in anticipation of new markets, helping operators and handset manufacturers implement groundbreaking services,” said Tomihisa Kamada, president and Co-CEO of ACCESS. “Looking forward, ACCESS will leverage its advanced technologies and proven record worldwide to lead the way to a ubiquitous Internet society where networked devices make possible more fulfilling user lifestyles.”
