ACCESS, NTT DOCOMO Conclude Technical Specification Development Agreement for ACCESS Linux Platform™

Tokyo, Japan, – August 8, 2008 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, today announced the Company concluded a System Engineering Assistance agreement with NTT DOCOMO, INC. on July 16, 2008. According to the terms of the agreement, ACCESS will create the technical specifications for co-developing an operator pack for ACCESS Linux Platform for DOCOMO’s FOMA 3G handsets. FOMA (Freedom Of Mobile multimedia Access) is the brand name for NTT DOCOMO’s 3G services, and was the world’s first W-CDMA 3G service, launched in 2001. The two companies are targeting the conclusion of an agreement detailing software development work for the FOMA operator pack during August.

The FOMA operator pack is an integrated application package that implements services such as i-mode. It will run on ACCESS Linux Platform, an open, flexible and scalable shared Linux-based platform that enables the creation of world-class mobile phones and supports the specifications of the LiMo Foundation (LiMo). Development of the FOMA operator pack for ACCESS Linux Platform will make it possible for mobile handset manufacturers worldwide to provide immediate support for DOCOMO on their own devices.

ACCESS and DOCOMO play leading roles in the LiMo Foundation, a dedicated consortium of mobile industry leaders working together to deliver an open and globally consistent handset software platform based on Mobile Linux. By promoting a LiMo-compliant solution using ACCESS Linux Platform, the two companies will help mobile handset OEMs and ODMs develop high-performance handsets more efficiently, increase coordination between operators and handset makers, and further energize innovation in the mobile phone market.
