ACCESS Develops New Server Solution, NetFront™ Transcoder

Next-generation technology improves website browsing from mobile handsets

Tokyo, Japan, – October 16, 2007 – ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, today announced NetFront Transcoder, a new Web-to-mobile content adaptation server technology that enables end users to browse any Web site from any mobile device. NetFront Transcoder, based on ACCESS’ award-winning NetFront Browser engine for mobile handsets and information appliances, will be marketed worldwide.

The full-featured NetFront Transcoder uses the browser engine to parse and render Web content, analyze its structure, and ascertain its layout for mobile use. Because NetFront Transcoder can also interpret JavaScript®, CSS and Flash—which are difficult to process with conventional systems that recognize and adapt HTML as text strings – it allows for real-time adaptation of rich Web content for PCs. Moreover, by taking into account different screen sizes, supported capabilities and memory capacities, NetFront Transcoder can optimize content for each individual device. A simple editing tool makes it easy to customize content for mobile sites after automatic conversion.

“Introducing a transcoder that can interpret intricately coded programs, such as JavaScript or Flash, would have been difficult without the expertise gained from our work with NetFront Browser,” said Toru Arakawa, ACCESS CEO, president and co-founder. “This is an exciting new milestone for ACCESS, and we look forward to providing users with similarly innovative solutions based on the powerful and versatile NetFront Browser engine.”

NetFront Transcoder will be available this November as a test service, with full roll out worldwide expected to take place in May 2008.

ACCESS provides the latest capabilities for full-browser handsets, contributing to the creation of a more enjoyable Internet experience. By offering not just client applications, but server applications as well, ACCESS makes it possible for more handsets to view more Internet sites, opening up new mobile markets in this era of ubiquitous communications.
