Monotype Imaging’s iType font engine, a high-performance font rendering subsystem based on the industry-standard TrueType® and OpenType® font formats, enables developers to enhance end-user experiences with scalable fonts that reflect the creative themes of user interfaces, applications, games and other content such as advertising and interactive services. The iType font engine leverages innovations such as Monotype Imaging’s patent-pending SmartHint technology. The SmartHint method solves East Asian text readability and legibility challenges and ensures the clear display of intricately shaped characters when scaled to small sizes. Fonts enabled with SmartHint technology, which require less font data ROM than regular TrueType or OpenType fonts, are part of Monotype Imaging’s lineup of ESQ® (Enhanced Screen Quality) Mobile fonts, engineered for optimal display quality on mobile phones. The iType font engine also supports Monotype Imaging’s WorldType Layout Engine, a modular software library for composing, positioning and rendering multilingual text, including complex scripts such as Arabic, Hindi and Thai, on various display screens, from mobile phones to control panels.
