MAYNARD, Mass., May 20, 2003 - Those attending this year's BookExpo America (BEA) conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center may want to stop by the Palm Digital Media, Inc. booth on May 30 for a high-tech eBook signing with New York Times best-selling fantasy writer Tad Williams. Palm Digital Media is a leading publisher and distributor of eBooks for handheld and desktop computers. BEA runs from May 28 to June 1.
Williams will be at the Palm Digital Media booth located in the show's eBook Experience pavilion from 3:15 to 3:45 p.m. May 31st to sign copies of The War of the Flowers, a contemporary novel set in Northern California, and also in the strange parallel world that coexists in the farthest reaches of the imagination. Williams is also the author of the popular OtherLand series, a four-volume epic about a global conspiracy that threatens to sacrifice Earth for the promise of a more exclusive universe. The books are published by DAW Books, Inc., the first publishing company ever devoted exclusively to science fiction and fantasy.
"It wasn't long ago that most people thought of eBook signings as a fantasy, so we're looking forward to having this event with one of the most well-known authors in this genre," said Mike Segroves, business development manager at Palm Digital Media. "This eBook signing is different from ones we've had in the past because participants will be able to download a free copy of The War of the Flowers from Palm Digital Media on the spot using two-way wireless communication technology."
With high-speed, short-range technology from WideRay, users will be able to simply point the infrared port on Palm Powered™ handhelds and PocketPC devices in the direction of the Jack access point and download the eBook. Williams will open a special page within the eBook and sign his name or write a message with the stylus. Palm Digital Media technology recognizes the strokes and the autograph/message are then embedded into the eBook. For those attendees who do not have a handheld, free hardcover copies will be available. After BEA the eBook will be available for $18.00.
